How the giving circle works
The Purpose Loop
1. Funds are pooled
Members sign up to the giving circle. Together, we build collective giving power and create a shared fund for impact.
2. Nominating
Members are invited to suggest organisations that align with our giving focus areas. Organisations are also able to submit themselves via a brief EOI form.
3. Shortlisting
Organisations are reviewed by a volunteer committee. Alignment with our giving principles and other due diligence is taken care of behind the scenes, ending up in a shortlist.
4. Community voting
Members vote on a shortlist of three organisations for each pillar, collectively deciding where our pooled money will go.
5. Giving
We announce the selected organisations and distribute the grants by 30 June each year.
6. Repeat
We reflect on what we’ve learned, share the impact created from the grants, and begin the next giving cycle together.
Giving principles
These principles guide how we assess opportunities and make funding decisions.
-
We seek to expand access to opportunity and support communities whose voices, leadership and contributions have historically been under-recognised or under-resourced.
When assessing organisations, we consider where resources can help remove barriers, strengthen resilience, and create the greatest potential for positive change.
-
We back organisations that are shaped by, accountable to, and connected with the communities they serve.
We value lived experience, local knowledge and community leadership, recognising that the people closest to an issue are often best placed to identify priorities and drive meaningful change.
-
We recognise that complex challenges require diverse perspectives and collaborative approaches.
We look for organisations that bring together different voices, experiences and ways of knowing, and that reflect the communities they serve.
-
We fund organisations, not just projects.
We recognise that organisations are best placed to determine how resources can be used most effectively to achieve their mission. Once we choose to back an organisation, we trust them to direct funds where they are needed most.
-
We recognise that creating change is rarely linear.
We value organisations that reflect, learn and adapt over time, and we apply the same mindset to our own giving.
